The Scottish Licensed Trade Association, along with 26 other organisations representing all sectors of Scotland’s tourism and hospitality industries, have issued a joint letter calling on the new First Minister to put a stop to the Scottish Government’s proposed ban on alcohol advertising and promotion. This move comes as a unanimous call to action, as the implications of such a ban could have serious negative impacts on Scotland’s economy.
In an open letter published by the Scottish Tourism Alliance today, the industry leaders warned of the grave consequences that the blanket ban on alcohol advertising and sponsorship could bring. Marc Crothall, CEO of the Scottish Tourism Alliance, commented that the proposed policy is poorly thought out and could result in significant damage to Scotland’s communities and its positioning as a global visitor destination. He added that any adverse consequences of the ban were likely unintended.
